Bud Russo was born in Baltimore,
Maryland, in the middle of the Second World War.
“I grew up in a time when kids could play unconstrained by anything other than their imagination. It was a time when, if
you believed ... really believed ... unicorns were possible. My brothers and I assumed make-believe identities. Using only our imaginations and the tools at
hand ... a sawed off broom handle, for example, became the control stick for a fighter plane, submarine, or space ship ... we flew to the heights in vigorous
aerobatic dogfights, dove to the depths to avoid the enemy or explore some ancient civilization, and conquered space, visiting distant planets. We were gladiators and warriors and pioneers
exploring not only the universe but also trying and testing the values our parents taught us.”
After graduating from New Mexico State University, Bud began work as an industrial
journalist - a career taking him into factories all over North America as well as Europe and Asia, where he not only learned how people of different cultures live but also
satisfied his curiosity of how the world works. “When I began writing fiction, I wanted to tap into all the experiences I had had, to share them with my readers, so they could
come to appreciate the marvelous diversity of our earth, its creatures, and its people.”
Bud makes his home in the enchanted Chihuahuan desert city of Las Cruces, New
Mexico. He is active with the Foundation for Las Cruces Museums, Mesilla Valley Writers, the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, & the Paleozoic Trackways Foundation.
